This weekend, the New England Patriots will host the Jacksonville Jaguars for the AFC Championship and the winner will be on their way to the ultimate bowl game. Not only do these regions have something to celebrate when it comes to football, but they have some great beers to go head to head too!
Representing the Pats: Samuel Adams Boston Lager
Style: Vienna Lager
Samuel Adams Boston Lager helped lead the American beer revolution, reviving a passion for full-flavored brews that are robust and rich with character. Since 1984, Samuel Adams Boston Lager has used only the finest hand-selected ingredients to create this perfectly balanced and complex original brew.
Representing the Jags: Intuition I-10 IPA
Style: American IPA
The West Coast comes to Jax with this extremely hoppy, true India Pale Ale. The two-row malted barley and caramel malt come to life with a ?@!#-ton of Northwest hops. Four different hops are used during the brewing process and during dry hopping. It’s music to your nose.
Game Day Match Up!
Much like the AFC Patriots, Sam Adams Boston Lager have lead the way for many years. In a Belichick style, this beer was on the forefront when it came to craft beer, and brought flavor to the traditional tasteless lager we were so use to. At just 5% AVB, you could have nearly as many of these, as Tom Brady throws for first downs and still be able to call an Uber all by yourself.
The I-10 however, is something special. The bitterness of its hops will make you feel like you have just been sacked by Calais Campbell, yet the balanced flavor and citrus notes are as tantalizing as watching Leonard Fournette power his way into the open field. The 6.75% AVB can sneak up on you like the Jags secondary so you have to be pretty careful, even if they call you “Gronk”.
Bottom line, is that you can’t make a wrong choice when it comes to these two beers. However, there are no ties in the play-offs, so BEERHOPSaLOT is leaning toward the underdog in both the football game and beer. It’s time for the old to make room for the new. So, raise a pint of Intuition I-10 IPA and see the Jags beat the Pats, 31-28
